![]() I initially thought that something was up with using the V4L2 header with the code, and spent a couple of evenings familiarising myself with the differences between the APIs. You could see the general shape of things in there, but it was unusable. I was severely disappointed with the pictures from the webcam - they were mostly black with bits of red or green dashed about. Luckily it seems that V4L2 is already supported with this software. It does however have videodev2.h, so I tried just making a soft link and the software compiled. The software did not compile immediately, since my distribution does not have the videodev.h include. Quick googling suggested mjpeg-streamer would be the thing I needed. Not having used a webcam with Linux before, I didn't have any idea what kind of command line tools were available to run it - I wanted to capture the stream and send it over the LAN to a browser on another machine so the Pi can run headless. I thought this might be a useful tale for anyone trying to get a webcam to work with their Pi.
